WHSAA, Inc Scholarship
Class of 1988 Destined to be Great Scholarship
Antionette was a member of the National Honor Society, Environmental Club, and Stage Crew at Western.
In the fall she intends to major in Women’s & Gender Studies and Pre-Medicine at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Taylor-Simone was a member of
the Varsity Softball team,
Environmental Club, and Stage Crew.
She plans to major in
African American Studies
at the University of Maryland College Park
in the fall where she has been
awarded a full scholarship!
Inaugural Louise Simms Scholarship for Scholastic Achievement in English
Inaugural Class of 1988 Destined to be Great Scholarship
The Louis Simms’ Scholarship was created by alumna Farai Chideya to honor her very special teacher, Mrs. Louise Simms.
Ms. Chideya wanted to find a way to honor the teacher that “inspired in many of us a lifelong love of the English Language”.
Our inaugural recipient is Nicole Saarah-Mensah.
She was a member of the National Honor Society, Book Club, and Environmental Club.
Nicole plans to pursue a degree in Biology at the University of Maryland College Park in the fall.
Kelsie will be attending Howard University where she will major in Nursing.
Lanarah Lee she is the recipient of the Class of 1989 Scholarship.
She will be attending Temple University majoring in Biochemistry.
Ayanna will be attending Bowie State University.
Sydney is the recipient of the Victoria L. Stevenson Scholarship and will be attending Delaware State majoring in Nursing.
Jordan is attending Johns Hopkins University, with a dual major in Nursing and Psychology to fulfill her calling of improving mental health in urban communities.
Gagandeep has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2014. She will be attending the University of Maryland College Park, where she will be majoring in Computer Science and Engineering, aspiring to be employed with a government agency.
Nia has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2016. She will be attending Florida A&M, where she plans to major in Biomedical Engineering to become a Radiologist.
WHSAA, Inc. Victoria L. Stevenson Memorial Award for Excellence in Mathematics
Najah has always excelled in math and is a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.36 GPA.
She is attending Howard University, majoring in Business with a concentration in Finance.
Class of 1962 Book Scholarship
Cache’ has been the vice president of the National Honor Society since 2016. She plans to attend Spelman College (GA). Cache’ has persevered through obstacles to obtain her dreams. She has aspirations of becoming a TV show host and motivational speaker.
Class of 1989 Book Scholarship
Mah has been a member of the National Honor Society. She plans to matriculate her undergraduate degree at Stevenson University this fall, majoring in Biochemistry to obtain her career goal of becoming a pediatrician.
Kayla was a member of the National Honor Society.
She aspires to be a Forensic Psychologist to improve the lives of others.
Kayla will be attending Delaware State University.
Sheila was a member of the National Honor Society.
She plans to pursue a career in the medical profession.
Shelia maintained a G.P.A of 4.35 and plans to attend Howard University.
Maiya has been an exceptional leader in the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, as well as participating in various extra- curricular school activities,
including the National Honor Society, at Western. She plans to pursue a career as a physician.
Maiya will be attending the University of Maryland - College Park.
INAUGURAL Victoria L. Stevenson Memorial Scholarship
WHSAA, Inc. chose to honor our fellow alumna and member by establishing a scholarship in her memory. Mrs. Stevenson (Class of '68) will be remembered by all as a devoted math teacher. The first recipient of this scholarship is Kiley Williams. Kiley was the president of the National Honor Society.
She maintained a 4.61 G.P.A, which is the cumulative of 9 AP classes.
Class Valedictorian, Kiley Williams, will be attending Morgan State University.
Class of 1989 Scholarship
Madelle was very active in extra-curricular activities at Western, as well as volunteering in the community.
She plans to attend Morgan State University to pursue a career in public health to improve the lives of others.
Class of 1962 Trailblazers Book Scholarship
UPDATE (April, 2018)
I'm currently a senior Community Health major at the UMD and will graduate this upcoming December.
I'm applying to JHU School of Nursing on July 1st so I can be in the Spring Cohort 2019
or I will be joining the health sector of the Peace Corps. This summer I will be participating in the
Future Leaders in Public Health internship for minority public health majors at the University of Michigan.
